Obituary

Anita Louise Straub (nee Mecklenburg), age 88, of Williamstown, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2026. Born in Berlin, Germany, she came to the United States at the age of 14 and lived in Bellmawr before moving to Williamstown in 1960.

Anita was a graduate of Haddon Heights High School, Class of 1956 and a graduate of Rutgers University, Class of 1960. She founded the Foreign Language Program at Williamstown High School and taught German, French and Spanish retiring in 1993. She was the class advisor for Williamstown High School, Class of 1963, was an assistant field hockey coach, an advisor for the National Honor Society, an advisor for the German Society, a member of Williamstown Kiwanis Club, and even worked with stage crew. She overall had an impact on many people’s lives.

Anita found joy in all things creative. She loved crafts, cross-stitching, crocheting, and making Halloween costumes for her family. She even enjoyed playing the accordion. One of her favorite creative pastimes was making home decor and Christmas tree ornaments from shells she collected during her many visits to the beach. In her free time, Anita also loved to bake. She was known for her delicious desserts and especially treasured the German recipes passed down to her from her mother. Anita’s faith was also an important part of her life. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and would always make sure she attended Sunday services. Anita also loved nature. From admiring the deer that visited her backyard, to the hummingbirds that arrived at her window, she appreciated the natural beauty that surrounded her home. She spent many happy hours outdoors gardening, tending to her yard, and relaxing on the beach. Anita also had a wonderful sense of adventure. She loved traveling and camping with her husband in their trailer, as well as spending time at their vacation home in Palm Coast, Florida. During her years as a teacher, she began annual trips to Germany with her students. After retirement, she continued the tradition, traveling to Germany with friends and family and creating memories that she treasured for years to come. Above all else, Anita loved her family and friends. She truly appreciated all the relationships she made throughout the years and cherished the memories she created. Her sweet and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her and remained with her until the very end. Anita’s beautiful soul will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Beloved wife of 66 years to Frederick Straub, Jr. Devoted mother of Frederick Straub, III (Denise), Kerry Straub (Tammy) and Eric Straub (Raeanne). Dear sister-in-law of Ronald Straub.
