Anthony D.
George
September 15, 1951 – January 30, 2025
Life Story
Anthony "Tony" David George was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1951. He was the 3rd of six children born to Matthew George and Mary (Vilorio) George. His family resided in North Philadelphia.
After moving to West Philadelphia, Tony's primary school education began at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School (Philadelphia). Upon completing Elementary School, Tony transferred to the Philadelphia School District Public Schools, and enrolled in and graduated from Overbrook High School in 1969. After his High School Graduation, Tony worked at various jobs in the Philadelphia area. In the early 1980's Tony's dream job of becoming a Respiratory Therapist became a reality. He graduated from a Respiratory Therapy Program as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Tony worked as a CRT at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until he relocated to Williamstown, New Jersey. In New Jersey, Tony continued his Respiratory Career at the Atlantic City Medical Center in Atlantic City New Jersey. Tony was a Certified Respiratory Therapist for over four decades before retiring in 2016.
In the field of Respiratory Therapy, Tony found his calling--and his wife, Angela D. Hedgman. Their blended family consisted of one son, DeShaun (Angela), and one son together, Andrew. Tony and Angela married in March 1994 and remained married to this day.
Tony was an avid fan of Philadelphia Sports Teams, especially the Philadelphia Eagles Football Team. Most Sundays Tony could be found watching the Eagles game on television and at the same time talking, no screaming, on the telephone with his brothers, his sons, and his friends about the game. Although an Eagles fan today, for years Tony was an avid Oakland Raiders fan. Not exactly sure when he jumped on the Eagle's bandwagon. When Tony was not watching sports, he could be found at home or at the Movie Theater enjoying films.
Tony was a creature of habit. During his younger years when he lived at home with his parents and siblings, his Sundays consisted of listening to "Sundays with Sinatra" with Sid Mark; and/or listening to the Malcolm X album, "The Ballot or the Bullet" on his record player. Tony had a deep love of Marine Life, meticulously caring for his many aquariums throughout the years.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Mary George, his youngest brother, Charles "Chucky" George, his father in-law and mother in-law, George and Anna Hedgman and his brother-in-law, Thomas Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Angela D. Hedgman; children: DeShaun G. C. Hedgman, (Lanishka) and Andrew G. Hedgman; 5 grandchildren: Jordan Hedgman, Londyn Hedgman, Blake Dixon, Tyler Hedgman and Andrew Hedgman Jr; 4 siblings: Eric George (Linda), Carl George (Arlette), Steven "Stevie" George (Freda) and Melanie George Phillips (Thomas); brother-in-law Amin Abdul Karim; sister-in-law Linda Hedgman along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. He will always be in our thoughts and our heart.
"My father cared more about the world and future generations than he did about himself. In his honor, let us move toward empathy and concern for others, and away from hate, greed, and selfish desires."- Andrew G. Hedgman

"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them-not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock"
1 Peter 5:2-3.
