Obituary

Carmen Della Anderson was born on May 22, 1954, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Carmen Luisa Diaz-Valentin and Louis Pierson. She was the eldest of two loving brothers, the late Louis (Louie) and John (Jackie). Though she spent most of her life in Philadelphia she always spoke so fondly of her childhood years living in Puerto Rico with her mother and brothers. Carmen spent her final weeks of life at home comfortably in her favorite place…Her Bed!

In 1975, Carmen met her late husband Gary through a mutual friend. Soon after, they married and had two daughters Talia and Chivonn. Throughout their 35 years together, Carmen and Gary shared their love for music, dancing, and their faith. They were both active members of their church community. Carmen was always a hard worker and held many administrative positions until her retirement in 2016. Carmen always stood strong on her values and principles and instilled them in her daughters as she raised them to be strong, confident, and independent women. She was also a source of support and counsel to many others throughout her years, always offering words of wisdom, guidance, and sometimes the often-needed nudge to get things done. You could always count on her to tell you like it was, whether you wanted to hear it or not.

Carmen is survived by her brother John (Jackie), her daughters Talia and Chivonn, son-in-law Marty, grandchildren Christian and Elina, niece Nyvette, many Godchildren including her Chaynita, her family, and dear friends who became family… her sisters Diana, Anna Maria, Victoria, Olga, Santi, and Deborah.

Carmen lived her life the best she knew, holding strong to her Faith in the Lord. Carmen and Gary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into their lives in the late 1990's. She was faithful to her Savior, her family, and her friends. She was loved by all who knew her. Carmen was a fighter.  For over 7 years Carmen bravely and quietly fought the hardest fight of her life until the Lord called her home on Thursday afternoon, June 27, 2024, at the young age of 70. In Carmen's final conversations, she expressed her love for all her children including the many she took under her wing. She voiced her sincere appreciation to her dear friends who called her every single day.  Carmen was happy and content, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her faithful daughters and many friends. She looked forward to being reunited with her Gary in the presence of her Lord.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, July 5th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Calvary Chapel, 5360 N. Black Horse Pike (Route 42), Turnersville, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to the following non-profit organizations Carmen has devotedly supported over the years:
