Obituary

T oday, we celebrate the life of our own beloved Mother Delores Boyer. Delores was born in New York, on November 23 rd 1934.  Her mother Delilah, while on a trip to visit her brother Ike, gave birth to her while at his home.  Shortly after, Delores was finally brought home by her parents to Philadelphia, where she would make her home for the next 52 years.  At the age of 52, Delores moved to Williamstown New Jersey, where she would joyously spend the remaining 36 years of her life.

She was blessed enough to have enjoyed a life full and long, surrounded by those who loved her immensely. She was a wonderfully nurturing mother who built the most loving of homes for her eight children, which echoed across generations.  It was always a pleasure to find yourself in her company, as she was always very kind, open, and full of laughter. You would think the saying "to know her, is to love her" to be specifically quoted to describe her, as she thoroughly enjoyed good conversation, good hearty laughter, and entertaining friends and family.

Delores's passion and highest priority always hinged upon making the most loving home she possibly could for her loved ones.  The generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who survive her are all living testament to her overt success in that regard.  With that being said, Delores was also an active and participating member of the community while trying her hand at multiple small business ventures (we all laugh).

Delores took great pride in her Cape Verdean heritage.  During her time in Philadelphia, she served for some years as President of the Philadelphia chapter of the Tchuba club, which supported the needs of families in the Cape Verde Islands.

Very notably, during her years in New Jersey, she was very active in her support of her beloved Grandson Joshua in his participation in Williamstown school sports, and school functions.  She very much took pride in being affectionately called Grandma by all the team members and coaches.  You see, Delores was one of the biggest personalities you could ever have had the privilege of meeting, and her energy was as such, that it was difficult to have seen her as anything other than grandma to all she encountered.  Luckily for them, we were willing to share.

In her leisure, Delores was an avid lover of bingo.  She often took road trips with one of her most dear friends Debbie to play for the "big bucks".  She hit bingo here and there, but the comradery with her friends was the part she enjoyed most.

Delores was the definition of the term Matriarch. She was a one of a kind soul that will never ever be forgotten.  We the family are grateful for the 88 beautiful years we had with her, and in due time, we all look forward to seeing her again given the grace of God.

Delores was the beloved wife of the late Mance Boyer, devoted mother of Joseph Tavares (Cheryl), Carla Holmes (Keith), Toni Wesley (James), Stephen Tavares (Wanda), the late Derek Carl Boyer, the late Manuel Tavares, the late Linda Tavares, and the late Harold Boyer.

She was also the loving grandmother of Nicole, Joseph, Jason, Christina, Michelle, Manuel, Delilah, Josh, Steven, and the late Darius.

Her siblings Marion Jordan, Manuel Lopes, Jr., and Andrew Lopes predeceased her.  Many loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members also survive her.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday, December 14th from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, where a funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Williamstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
