Obituary

Eleanor Marie Abraham (nee Stokes), age 94, of the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ, formerly of Clayton, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2022.

Eleanor was born in Germantown, PA, and lived in Glassboro, NJ before settling in Clayton over 49 years ago.  Educated in the Monroeville public school system, she was a graduate of Woodstown High School.  She married her love, Joseph E Abraham II in 1949.

Eleanor was a hard, dependable worker. She worked as an aide in the Vineland State School and with Owens Illinois in Glassboro, N.J.  She worked alongside her husband in their Radio Shack business for several years. Later in life, she worked in retail at Strawbridge and Clothier at the Echelon Mall and as a teacher's assistant at Aura Elementary School in Glassboro, Elk Township.

She was also active in her community. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Glassboro, the Bethany Baptist Association and the Glassboro Orchid Club.

Eleanor was a faithful church member and she loved serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She served on the Usher Board and the Senior Choir at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Glassboro. Later as a member of the Gloucester County Community Church, she became a prayer warrior in the Stephen's Ministry, a regular participant in the Forever Young group and a joyful voice in the church choir.

Eleanor was a very kind, caring person who loved her family. She was a wonderful hostess whenever someone came to visit. Her warm, welcoming smile greeted guests at the door. She had the skill of juggling many tasks at once. One of her best gifts was cooking.  She put such love and patience into each dish and she made sure everyone was well-fed before leaving her home. Her family will always remember those delicious dinners-  whether it was Sunday afternoons, Thanksgiving night, or family reunions.

Eleanor loved to travel. Some of her favorite trips were to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Still she would rarely pass up a trip to the Jersey shore because she loved the beach.

Beloved wife of 73 years to Joseph E. Abraham, II.  Devoted mother of the late Larry Abraham (Sylvia), Annetta Allen, Joseph Abraham, Jr. (Marlene), Beverly Autore (Michael), and Mark Abraham (Brenda).  Loving grandmother of Troy Abraham, Tanya Atterberry (Julius), Craig Abraham, Yusuf Perry, Christopher Abraham (Yolanda), Maryum Mims (Don), Candice Davis (Sammie), Jamil Perry, Michael Joel Autore, Eric Abraham, Nicole Abraham, Liana Autore, and great-grandmother of 10.  Dear sister-in-law of Martha Emma Louise Gray and Norman Nathaniel Abraham and a gracious aunt and great-aunt to a host of nieces and nephews.  Eleanor was predeceased by her 11 siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday, October 8th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Gloucester County Community Church, 359 Chapel Heights Road, Sewell, where a service will be held at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
