George R. Brown, age 97, of Sicklerville, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2022.
Born in Norwood, PA, he lived in Ashton, PA before moving to Sicklerville in 1986. He attended schools in Norwood, Glendora, Darby Twp. and later attended Crozer Seminary.
Mr. Brown was a proud US Army Veteran of World War II. He worked as a police officer for the Darby Twp. Police Department for 23 years and later worked as an Assistant Foreman for Sun Oil Refinery before retiring. He was a Past Commander of the VFW Post #1616, a member of American Legion Post #252, a charter member of the Gloucester County Veterans Advisory Council, and a former Grand Marshall for the Veterans of Foreign War Convention in Wildwood, NJ. Mr. Brown was the Captain of the Gloucester County Honor Guard of the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. He enjoyed speaking to students in local schools about citizenship and patriotism. Above all, he was a faithful member of St. Matthew's A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia (Pastor: Rev. Vernon R. Byrd, Jr.), where he assisted with communion, prayer service, and was a steward in the church.
Beloved husband of Olethia D. Brown (nee Singleton). Devoted father of Dennis Brown (Myra), Denise McNair (the late Curtis), Marilyn Gerald, Louise Washington (Glenn), Linda Robinson (the late Lawrence), and Terri Jones (Paul). Dear brother of Williard, the late Grace, the late Eunice, and the late Walter. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, May 23rd from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, NJ, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews A.M.E. Church, 215 N. 57 th Street, Philadelphia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gloucester Co. Veterans Memorial Cemetery "Cemetery Fund", PO Box 337, Woodbury, NJ 08096.
