It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Gladys I. Leaming, a cherished and lifelong resident of Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, who peacefully left us on May 16, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on August 17, 1927, Gladys was a proud member of the Leaming family, one of the earliest settler families of Wildwood, and she was the last surviving individual of that esteemed lineage.

Gladys's roots run deep in the community she loved, and her life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and resilience. A dedicated daughter of Wildwood Crest, she attended the local public schools and began her working life as a seamstress at the Wildwood Clothing Factory. She later dedicated many years of her career to the Bell Telephone Company, where she forged lasting relationships and earned the admiration of her colleagues.

Throughout her middle years, Gladys found joy and vitality in her love of dance. She studied with the Arthur Maury Dance Company and was proud to have participated in and won several dance contests—an accomplishment she held dear. Her spirited nature and zest for life left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.

Gladys is survived by her nephews Robert (Judy), William (Johanna), Thurman (Christy), and nieces Margie and Loretta. She was also a beloved grandmother to Kimberly, her greatest pride and joy.

A graveside service will be held at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Cape May Court House to honor her memory (200 Church Street, Cape May Court House, NJ).  The family warmly invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating her remarkable life and enduring legacy on Friday May 23rd at 1:00 PM.

Gladys's warmth, strength, and love for her family and community will be profoundly missed. May she rest in eternal peace.
