Gwendolyn
Prescott
December 21, 1929 – December 16, 2022
Gwendolyn J. Prescott, (Gwen), 92, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Jefferson Hospital, Washington Township Campus (NJ).
Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Gwen graduated from New Brunswick High School (NJ) in 1950. She worked for many years at Ethicon in Sommerville and had also worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb and Revlon in New Brunswick, NJ. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1969.
She was the daughter of the late Isabell East (Mason) and Harold East. She was also predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James Prescott, her sister Lititia Fenwick, her brothers, John, Harry, Robert, Milton and Ronald East. Gwen was survived by her three children, James K. Prescott (Catherine), Kim Howell, and Joann Trusty (Miguel); eight grandchildren, Shaneika, Jonathan, Taniesha, Alexis, Andrea, Shakeil, Dymond and Chanell; 16 great grandchildren, Amya, Naiser, Trinity, Zaniah, JahmyJah, Imron, Messiah, Riley, Cameron, Alana, Siyion, Byron, Ava, Amari'yona, Elijah and A'Neen; a brother, Phillip East (Doris); a sister Sandra Jackson and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
Her legacy was her extraordinary energy level and enthusiasm for life, her love for Jehovah, her family and friends, and her kind, spunky and adventurous spirit.
Mom enjoyed the door-to-door ministry and actively participated, as much as she could pre-Covid, up until the age of 89. And even though over the last four years Mom was limited, she was happy to have had the opportunity to participate in her door-to-door ministry in September of 2022, when it was resumed by Jehovah's Witnesses after being suspended for two and half years during COVID.
Her children have fond memories of Mom, not just taking them to the beach, horseback riding, sleigh riding, skiing, ice skating, roller skating, dirt bike riding, you name it; but of her being right there with them participating in all of those activities! She even continued to engage in some activities with her grand and great-grandchildren who affectionately knew her as "Gran".
Mom loved, and very often went to the beach, and she loved to travel. We were shocked at pictures of Mom parasailing during a trip that she took when she was in her mid-50s. For her, when it came to adventure, the sky really was the limit! Mom loved to dance, and she also very much enjoyed the time that she was able to spend with her husband, siblings and her extended family and friends over the years.
Mom also loved to race. Her son and nephew often talked about how Mom beat them and her brothers in races on the beach, (while in her 40's!). And how it wasn't until her nephew turned 16, was he able to beat her! And Mom continued to be an avid runner. She ran the race for everlasting life to the end!
We look forward to seeing what Mom will adventurously take on in paradise! We know for sure that the hope of the resurrection is etched deeply in Mom's heart and mind, because while at her recent hospital visit, after coming out of surgery; Mom thought that she had not made it through the surgery; but had instead made it to paradise. She asked "Why am I not perfect yet? Where are Kirk and Joann? Where is all my family? And when do I get to see my husband?" 🙂 I had to gently tell Mom that she had not made it to the paradise yet, but that she had made it through the surgery. However, I assured her that the promise of that paradise on earth WILL be a reality very soon! We take comfort in knowing that this time when she wakes up; she WILL really be there! We will miss her until then, but we look forward to seeing her again!
A Memorial Talk will be held, at 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 7th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1754 Erial Clementon Road, Sicklerville, NJ 08081.
