Oct 14, 1938 — Oct 6, 2026
Pennsville, NJ
James Roy Cartwright, age 87, of Pennsville, NJ, passed away on October 6, 2026.
Born in Lee County, Texas, he developed a strong appreciation for hard work and the simple things in life, learning the ways of farm life from his grandparents. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing basketball, creating many memories that would stay with him. In the late 1950’s, he relocated to Maryland before eventually making his way to New Jersey, where he worked in a variety of different fields throughout the years. He ultimately found his place as an employee of SMC, where he worked as a heavy machine’s operator. Outside of work, he enjoyed his CB radio, and his handle was “JR @ born and raised in Texas”, playing his guitar and singing, sharing his love of music with those around him. He cherished family barbecues and spending time outdoors. He also had a unique interest in studying numerology. James will be deeply missed by many.
Beloved son of the late Freddie and Eula Cartwright. Devoted father of James, Jr., Sharon, Jacqueline, Gwendolyn, Vincent, Jimmy, Corey and the late Christopher and George. Dear brother of Sharon Cartwright, Carol Ann Williams and the late Luella Robinson. Loving grandfather of Darnell, Shaniece, Shyheem, Ashlee, Rodney, Desiree, Daniel, Hadar, Dutchess, Stella, Arthur, Alexis, Marquis, CJ, Kailah, Timothy, Cassidy, Marcus, Isaac and Isaiah. James is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held privately.
