Dr. Joseph A. Lisa, age 91, born on June 8, 1931, of Pitman, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2022, surrounded by his family. Dr. Lisa was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA., and was the oldest child of the late Joseph and Angelina (nee Ligato) Lisa.
Beloved husband of AnnaMarie (nee Pellegrini) and devoted father of Dr. Angela Lisa, Joseph Lisa (Barbara), and AnnaMarie Couce (Robert). Loving grandfather of Stephanie Lisa, Esquire, Michael Lisa (Olivia), Alysa Couce, Melissa Couce, and AnnaMarie Couce. Great grandfather of Sofia Chavez and Lucas Lisa. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and family members.
Dr. Lisa's love of airplanes began when he was a little boy in boy scouts. His leader who was a pilot allowed the scouts to fly if they helped him clean his plane. Flying became a passion for Dr. Lisa. He acquired his pilot's license before he got his driver's license as a young man. Dr. Lisa honed his love of flying by honorably serving his country as a pilot in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
After leaving the Navy, he completed his undergraduate degree at Penn State University and the University of Alabama. He then went on and received his master's degree in Music and Music Theory from Trenton State University. Later he went on to further his education by receiving a Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) and a Doctorate of Chiropractic (D.C.) from the New York Chiropractic Institute.
Dr. Lisa operated and practiced Chiropractic for over 30 years in Pitman, NJ, with his wife at his side as his office manager. Together they worked hard and built a successful practice. He loved what he did for a living and cherished each and every one of his patients. As with everything in his life, he showed dedication, discipline, and determination. He was a member of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), was the President of the Southern NJ Chiropractic Society (SNJCS) from 1971-1972 and was a member of the Flying Chiropractors Association.
Before he became a Chiropractor, he was the District Head of Music in Philadelphia. He also taught in New Jersey and New York. His passion and love of music started from an early age when his teacher noticed how well he played instruments and encouraged him to continue on with music. He loved being a music teacher and played every instrument. One of his greatest accomplishments was when his band was chosen by the Governor of New York to represent New York at the World's Fair. His favorite instruments to play were the piano, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, and saxophone. Not only was he a band leader but a band member of the Barrington Band and the Tri-County Symphonic Band. He owned and operated a music studio offering instructions for all band instruments, tutoring, arranging, and orchestration.
He and his wife just celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in August. She was the love of his life and he loved to tell how they met and fell in love. He treasured his role as a husband, and father and cherished being a grandfather. Family was most important to him, and he enjoyed being with his family.
His second enjoyment was owning and flying his own small airplanes. He was happy to take his family members on short flights and adventures. His children were always included when camping, traveling, and going to endless music affairs.
Dr. Lisa was very generous and concerned with helping others. He made many donations for medical issues. He donated a small plane to the Wings of Hope an organization that helps communities around the world, giving necessary medical supplies. He also donated several cars to the local community college to give students a chance to learn proper car repair. Dr. Lisa was a self-motivator, and a positive thinker and lived life to the fullest. He loved to share his knowledge, and adventures in life and was always helpful to others. He cherished his family, friends, the many students he taught, and the patients he treated throughout his career, and they all cherished him. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
