Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce Mary Dougherty passed away on the evening on August 31, 2022.

Always quick with a smile, but quicker with a joke, Mary was a charming redhead who found a friend in everyone she met.

Born January 9, 1933 Mary was the first child of Harry and Mary Bramble. She was a beloved big sister to her three younger brothers, Robert, Harry and Bill.

As a teen Mary was a singer who delighted in performing with different bands across the Philadelphia area. During her time at West Catholic Girls High she formed many life long friendships before graduating in 1950.

In 1952 she married the love of her life, William (Bill) G. Dougherty, while wearing a beautiful satin gown and lace Juliet cap veil. Bill was deeply in love with Mary, including his relief that he would now be able to relinquish all the talking in the relationship to her.

During their marriage they had two sons, William (Bill) and John (Jack). Eventually settling in Williamstown, NJ in 1959, Mary began working at the Violet Packing plant, starting on the production line and becoming their office and plant manager. After 30 years with Violet, she eventually retired in 1995. During this time, she was an active member of the Williamstown community, serving as the President of the Monroe Township Little League Auxiliary, Secretary, and then the first female President of the Monroe Township Business Association.

Mary profoundly loved and was devoted to her family. Her love and care extended far into her family tree and a bit beyond as well. From hosting cookouts, dinners, and card nights, she believed in the power of bringing together those she loved.

To know Mary was to know someone who was never still. Perhaps it was the coffee she drank all day long. Regardless of the reason, she believed in keeping herself busy was a way of life, and it helped prompt the fantastic travels that she and Bill enjoyed during their retirement years. Mary also was never without a crocheting project, and there were many happy recipients of her incredible crochet blankets.

She is predeceased by her parents, brothers, and husband Bill.

She is mourned and missed by many, including her two sons William G Dougherty Jr, John H Dougherty (Petra), the six grandchildren who called her Grandmom, Jacylyn, Peter (Eva), Erin (Bill), Sean (Megan), Jamie (Leah), and Janet, as well as the five beautiful great grandchildren she was GG to, Dillon, Julianna, Dean, Joey, and Jason. She will be missed by her nieces and nephew especially from the Straus and Bramble families, who were always near and dear.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, September 9th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Williamstown.

In Lieu of flowers, please donate to Voorhees Animal Orphanage or your Local No Kill Animal Shelter in Mary's memory.
