Maria "Mary" Sottile (nee Pirri), was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She went home to be with the LORD on July 19, 2023, at the age of 92. Mary lived in Glassboro for 30 years, then in Monroeville for nine years, followed by four years in Glen Burnie, MD. Her last place of residency was at Traditions of Cross Keys in Glassboro, where the entire staff, under the direction of Ellen Scagnelli, lovingly cared for her and treated her as one of their own.
She was born to Salvatore and Carmela Pirri on March 31, 1931. She grew up with her family in Glassboro, NJ, where she met her beloved late husband, Dominick Sottile. Together they raised seven children: Judy Collings (Brian), Michael Sottile (Linda), Brenda Chew (Gary), Linda Douglas (Darren), Tina Pirri, Eric Pirri (Tammy), and the late Frank Pirri (Mary). Loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Dear sister to Pete Pirri (Margie) and the late Frank and Nancy Pirri.
Mary was an exceptional genuine homemaker. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends. With pride, she maintained a large home that became the center gathering place with family and friends for every holiday and special event. Mary had two great gifts: putting others first and praying for others. She welcomed ALL into her home, especially her church family to gather and fellowship as often as possible. Farming and gardening were part of her daily routine, she knew when to plant and harvest every fruit, vegetable, and herb. And come late summer, her house turned into a canning factory for tomato sauce, jellies, jams, and winter vegetable freezing. She was skilled at making crafts, crocheting blankets, and kitchen towels that she loved giving as a gift or selling to raise funds for her church ministries. If you didn't find Mary at home, you most likely found her serving in some capacity at her church, Calvary Hill Assembly of God. She was a devoted woman of God and lived as she believed totally focused on the love of Jesus Christ, family, work, and others.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, August 4th from 9:00– 11:00 AM at Calvary Hill Assembly of God Church, 535 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro, where a service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michael's Ministry (for New Testament Bibles) at 354 N. Main Street, Glassboro, N. J. A dedicated ministry to reach others through the testimony of Mary Sottile's late grandson, Michael.
