Obituary

Michael F. Gabbianelli, 69, of Williamstown, NJ, passed away on September 11, 2023.  Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was raised in Fairview, NJ, and moved to Williamstown in 1977.

Mike known to many as "Gabby" graduated from Cliffside High School, Class of 1972, where he was a standout baseball player.  He began his law enforcement career with the Fairview Police Department and later came to the Monroe Township Police Department and served as a police officer for 25 years before retiring as a lieutenant. He also owned and operated Gabbianelli Construction.  Mike served as the Mayor of Monroe Twp. for three consecutive terms from 2002 - 2014.  He was a founding member and past treasurer of the Monroe Twp. FOP Lodge #125, the Sons of the American Legion Post #252, Cliffside Park Men's Club, Knights of Columbus Mater Christi Council #3352, Clayton Elks, GC Construction Board of Appeals, a former member of the Williamstown Rotary, helped form the Southern NJ Honor Flight, an avid supporter of the Sunshine Foundation and was an avid supporter of veterans.

Beloved husband for 46 years of Janet Gabbianelli (nee Sgambati).  Devoted father of Michael Gabbianelli, Jr. (Tara) and Frank Gabbianelli (Scottie Lea).  Loving grandfather of Michael Gabbianelli III and Haley Gabbianelli, and granddog Graceland "Yappy".  Dear brother of Lynn Bonstein (Steve), Paul Gabbianelli (Claudia), Donna Cupelli (Jack), and Daniel Gabbianelli, Jr. (Joel).  Loving son of the late Daniel Gabbianelli and the late Theresa Gabbianelli.  Dear son-in-law of Peter Sgambati and the late Frances Sgambati.  Dear brother-in-law of Francine Pascarella (Vinnie) and Sandra Wrightington (Mark).  He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.  He will always be remembered as a loving father and friend to all.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, September 15th from 5:30 – 9:00 PM and Saturday from 8:30 – 10:00 AM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church / Our Lady of Peace Parish, S. Main Street, Williamstown.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Williamstown.
