Obituary

Patricia A. Nicktern (nee Steigerwald), age 85, of Williamstown, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2025.

Patricia was a proud graduate of St. Joe's Polish High School in Camden, NJ, where she excelled in basketball, a passion she carried with her throughout her life. After graduation, Pat married the love of her life, her Bob, and began a family together. Their strong, steadfast and selfless love afforded them a lifetime of laughter and joy with family and friends. Their favorite song is "All of the Sudden My Heart Sings" by Paul Anka. Patricia enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband and dear friends, appreciating the beauty of the world around her.  Patricia will be deeply missed by all who knew her and remembered for her unwavering love, compassion, and joyful spirit.

In her professional life, Patricia worked as a secretary for Maletesta Real Estate Agency in Camden, NJ, secretary for Penn Mutual Insurance Company in Philadelphia, PA, as an aide for Meadowview Nursing Home in Williamstown, and then worked as Administrative Assistant for Dr. Jack Bier at BAC Associates in Haddon Heights, NJ.

Pat was a longstanding member of Open Bible Baptist Church in Williamstown, NJ where she served as the church secretary for many years, volunteered in the school kitchen, headed a lady's ministry for cleaning the church, served alongside her husband in the nursing home ministry where they held church services. They also served together in the Keen Ager ministry and the Holiday House ministry.  She was a Sunday School teacher for both Open Bible Baptist Church and St. Mary's Roman Catholic church in Williamstown, where her and her Bob also worked with the Pre-Cana Ministry.  They also worked together with the Jaycees/Jaycettes.  She was always willing to serve wherever and whenever she was needed.

Pat had a heart of gold, and a home filled with hospitality.  She always financially supported her beloved charities.  She took in anyone who needed a place to stay or a meal such as servicemen, missionaries, her sons-in-law and daughter-in-law and all of those in between.

Her grandchildren often referred to her home as a safe haven where they received, love, sympathy and dessert.  She always demanded she was the first person to be hugged and kissed upon entering the house.  They happily complied.

Beloved wife of 65 years to Robert W. Nicktern.  Devoted mother of Renee VanLeer (Steven), Kelly Barber (Steven), Laurie Edwards (Timothy), Robin Breder (Rick) and Derek Nicktern (Anna).  Loving grandmom of thirteen grandsons and four granddaughters.  She is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren and by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, March 20th from 9:00-11:00 am at the Open Bible Baptist Church, 1073 New Brooklyn Road, Williamstown, NJ, where a service will be held at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown, NJ

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bible Publishing Ministry of Open Bible Baptist Church, 1073 New Brooklyn Road, Williamstown, NJ  08094.
