Obituary

Stephen John Pantella, Jr., age 76, of Williamstown, New Jersey, passed away on May 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Camden, NJ, in February of 1949, Stephen was the beloved son of the late Stephen J. Pantella, Sr. and Cora Pantella (née Elias). He grew up in Gloucester City before making Williamstown his home.

Steve was a proud and courageous patriot who voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, fighting bravely in the Battle of Hamburger Hill. Wounded in combat, he was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his heroism. Steve retired from the Army, carrying dignity in his service and the sacrifices made by his fellow soldiers.

A man who valued hard work and integrity, Steve enjoyed working with his hands and took pride in every task he undertook. He gave back to his community by speaking at Washington Township High School, where he shared his experiences in Vietnam to educate and inspire the next generation.

Steve also cherished life's simpler joys — he enjoyed fishing, was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, and loved trips to the casino with his lifelong companion Janet and his cousin Leon.  Steve leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, and quiet kindness. Those who knew him will remember his sharp wit and signature phrase, "I'm only serious," often said reminding everyone of his sense of humor.  He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Stephen, Sr. and Cora; sisters, Elizabeth "Rusty" Rusk and Eileen Clements (Harry); aunt, Thelma Valentino (John); and niece, Colleen New.  He is survived by his devoted children, Stephanie Fisler (Anthony), Danielle Pantella, and Kevin Pantella (Dorothy); grandchildren, Abbygale, Jacob, and Zion; dear sister, Dianne Fox; aunt, Beverly Harting (Stuart); nieces and nephews, Paul Jenkins, Bryan Jenkins, Jessica Kelly, Janeen Burns (Patrick), Chad Rusk (Linda), and Lisa Cipolone. He is also survived by many loving cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, May 29th from 10:00 -11:00 AM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM.  Burial with military honors will be held in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown, NJ 08094.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Gift Processing Center, PO Box 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425.
