Thomas L. Ott, 78, of Swedesboro, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Woodbury, NJ, he grew up in Billingsport, raised his family in Washington Twp. and retired to Lancaster, PA before finally moving to Swedesboro in 2009.
The youngest of 3 children, he completed his high school degree at The Stony Brook School and earned a bachelor's in engineering from Drexel University. One of Tom's favorite past times was playing and watching baseball. He was an outstanding right-handed pitcher, scouted in college by the Philadelphia Phillies. Tom had a successful career as a Professional Engineer, working for Westinghouse, Stone & Webster, and Enron before starting two successful companies. In later years, he served as a Trustee for the Board of Williamson College of the Trades. Tom used his gifts as an architect and engineer to support many schools and churches, donating his professional services for their building projects. He loved Jesus and served Him faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Awana commander, youth group leader, and deacon/elder in multiple area churches. He was most recently a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Carney's Point, NJ.
Tom would say his greatest success was his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Andrea (nee Petrillo), 4 children: Cheryl Wanamaker (Chuck), Mark (Dana), Brian (Naidona), and Colleen Holmes (Mike); 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Williams and multiple nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph M. and Eva (nee Caranci) Ott, and his brother Joseph Ott.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, May 31st from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 300 Georgetown Road, Carneys Point NJ, 08069, where a service will follow at 7:30 pm. Burial will take place on Saturday, June 1st at 12:30 pm at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, Tom's family requests gifts be made to Williamson College of the Trades (www.williamson.edu/giving) .
