Obituary

Wayne Walter Johnson, age 84, of Williamstown, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on February 8, 1941 to Robert and Doris Johnson, he was a lifelong resident of Williamstown.  Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Glassboro High School and proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  After graduating from Glassboro State and receiving his master's degree, he spent many years as a dedicated educator; teaching elementary school in the Winslow Twp. School District, before retiring in 2003.

Wayne was a deep-rooted member of the community and an 8th generation member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, where he served as the church historian and a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years.  With an impressive knowledge of history, he was a member of the Civil War Round Table in DE.  He found great meaning as a Civil War reenactor, visiting every Civil War battlefield.

With all 50 states accomplished and many places abroad, Wayne had a love for traveling; especially a cross-country drive with his family beside him.  In combination with his love for walking and hiking, he delighted in picking the "high point" for each state they visited to hike, including Mt. Washington.

Wayne was a talented woodworker, crafting many treasures over the years.  He was also a gifted writer and an avid reader with a sprawling collection of books, even a few he wrote himself.

Beloved husband of 61 years to Alice M. Johnson (nee Asher).  Devoted father of Bjorn Johnson (Cynthia) and Sarah Johnson.  Loving grandfather of Christina (Vic), Elizabeth (John), Austin (Kenzi), Aren (McKenna), and Tanner.  Doting great grandfather of Ryker, Cora, Benjamin, Claire, Chase, Jack, and Callum.  Dear brother of Rebecca Lindstrom (the late Robert) and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his dedicated companion, his dog Piper.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, December 1st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, December 2nd from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM and burial will follow in Williamstown Methodist Cemetery, Williamstown.
